Double Digits

Today my one and only son turns 10. Hard to believe.

Grant and Kurtis had been saving money to buy an XBOX 360 and for Grant's birthday we gave him the lacking funds to buy it. He was very much appreciative of the gift.

Little did he know he gave us the gift on his birthday.

Kurtis and Grant were sitting alone together in the car when Kurtis said to Grant, "Wow Grant, you are ten today - double digits- I wonder what you will be like in 10 more years." Grant replied, "I don't know dad, but I hope I am just like you!"

What a sweetheart.

We had a great time with friends at Los Tres Amigos here in Howell and then our chef friend made Grant an opera cake (at his request) for his birthday. At Los Tres they sang "Happy Birthday" and then gave G some fried ice cream. Don't miss the video below!!!

Then it was on to play XBOX Live with some buddies all of which are 30 and above!!! I love my kid!!!

20 minutes from Hell

You may have heard me say before that when we left Oklahoma we didn't move to Hell but we are within 20 minutes of it. It's true ya know. Hell, Michigan. Look it up!!!

For the most part Howell, MI is just a hum drum little town smack dab between Lansing and Detroit on I-96. I can be in either place in about 30 minutes. And for fun and excitement we usually take on one of those cities.

But once a year, Howell becomes the place to be. Even the Detroit Free Press had the annual Michigan Balloon Challenge on the front page on Friday.

I love living on Thompson Lake and the best part is when the balloons come right over the lake and touch down on the water. Unfortunately, this year the wind was coming from the north so they didn't come and touch down on the lake but it was still a sight to behold.

Knitting 101

So, I've decided to take up knitting. Is that twisted or what? I have the patience of a fly and my coordination is worse!!

Paige is also learning and I continually have to ask her if I am doing it right. She's 7 for crying out loud!!!

I decide I am going to make a scarf. I get what I think is a nice little set of rows going and I mess up on one stitch. ONE STITCH-I tell you!!! I have to rip the whole thing out!! So, I am thinking that I may never work up to the scarf and will end up with a very lovely hot pad for my table! Or maybe a Barbie doll scarf or something.

I'll keep you posted. I'm so glad God doesn't "rip the whole thing" out when I screw up!!!

Father's Day

Every year since 1997 I have made a scrap book for Kurtis for Father's Day. This year I asked my personal photographer (Mindy Jo) to take some pics when we at the park the other day to put in Kurtis's book. She did such an awesome job I thought I would share.

The Post About Nothing!

I mean it!! Nothing!! Because that is what me and my husband did ALL DAY Saturday and most of Sunday.

Saturday morning I woke up at 7:45 and finished a book I was reading until about 8:30 and then went back to sleep until 11:35. Then I got up and ate. Then I watched TV. Then I ate again.

Kurtis and I then decided we should do something so we went to the library and each got 3 new books to read.

Then we read. Then we ate.

Then we read again.

Then we ate again.

Because we were exhausted from all we did, we then went to bed to read.

Sunday morning, though, we actually left the house and went to church. Then we ate. Then we took a nap. Then we read. Then we ate again. Then we went to bed.

Now is that the perfect weekend or what. We only get to do this once a year (while our kids are in OK) so we try to do it well!!

Speaking of Rednecks...

Sunday, Kurtis and I were driving back from dropping off the kids to my mom for a couple of weeks in St. Louis. About 30 miles outside of St. Louis we loose the air-conditioner in our van. So, we roll down the windows and make the best of the 90 degree heat pouring in through the windows at 80 miles per hour. Then, in the heat, my husband decides to take off his shorts and sit in only his boxers. Ok, not a good visual, but my worst thought was like getting a ticket and here is my husband in his boxers. At least they had a cute little pattern on them!

So, we get close to Indianapolis and our radio scan picks up the Indianapolis 500 and we begin to listen. Of course because of the wind coming through the windows we had it up as loud as it would go and we are like yelling at each other to discuss what we didn't know about car racing.

As we are doing this, I keep thinking we must look like the biggest rednecks to the people we are passing. At one point, I even had my barefeet out the window!!!
