But I can screw anything up.
A couple of weeks ago my beautifully sweet (really you should meet her to see how funny that is!) sister-in-law Leslie sends me an email. She explains that my precious (seriously, she's a doll) neice Megan has requested that Abi, Grant and Paige help her with her First Grade Project. She will mail me everything I need to do, all I have to do is mail it back to her by May 1st. Sounds simple doesn't it but knowing that I am organizationally challenged she wanted to make sure that I realized there was a deadline involved in getting the project back to Oklahoma.
So, it comes. It is this precious little spider handcrafted by said neice. I am to show the spider around town. Take some pictures and journal the adventures of Aranea the spider. No big deal. And we do everything and I am extremly proud of myself. Especially since during this time I am responsible for thousands of dollars worth of books and coordinating our school's spring book fair all the while showing Aranea around school. I close up the book fair, count up the cash from the book fair (over $10,000 in cash by the way!) box up the books we didn't sell and I am on my way. I get home that night to send Aranea, the journal and the pictures back to my niece in time for her big day in the first grade.
I sit down and start preparing:
Journal-"check"
Pictures"check"
Envelope-"check"
Aranea-....
Aranea-.....
"Paige, Do you have Megan's spider, Aranea?"
"No, you had it"
No, I gave it to you!"
No, I gave it to you!
Nuh-uh, I gave it to you!
The search was on!!! Two days of mail lost and I was behind on getting Aranea back to the first grade on time. I figure I must have left it at school.
So all weekend I am worried about this spider. We decide if we have to we will make another spider and tell Megan it had an extreme makeover while in Michigan. That won't scar her to bad right? I could pay for therapy if I have to. It could be ok.
I go into school this morning and the beautiful spider is sitting on my desk. I was so relieved. I quick grab the spider and rush over to the UPS store where I spent $9 to send it priority mail to guarantee Wednesday delivery so that she will have it on time!!
I tell the UPS guy, "this has to be in Oklahoma by Wednesday!" and he says, "ok, what is it?" and I said, "It is my neice's spider and it is very important that she has it by Wednesday!" He said, "it would be cheaper if it was there on Thursday." To which I replied, "Seriously, it has to be there on Wednesday! This is her first grade project and if she is the only one in the first grade who doesn't have her spider I will feel horrible. It has to be there on Wednesday I don't care what it costs!" Since when do THEY care how much I have to spend in THEIR store!!! This is a REAL emergency people!!!!
But as evidence that I really did plan ahead...the pictures on the back are dated April 26 so there is proof that I really was ready to send it many days ago! Does that count for anything? Probably not! But I tried!!
