Why CSA is a School of Excellence

Today while working in the library I had the following conversation with a 5th grade boy:

Student: Mrs. Minney, can you tell me if you have any books about Barry Sanders?
Me: Well, it seems like we do but let me check the computer? (while checking I ask...) Barry Sanders is from my home state do you know where that is?
Student: Yes, it is Oklahoma isn't it?
Me: Yes, it is. Do you know where he played college football?
Student: Yeah, didn't he play at Oklahoma State?
Me: Yes, he did.
Student: Then he came to play for the Lions which means that he must have been a first round draft pick since the Lions aren't very good.
Me: You know what? He was because he actually won the Heisman Trophy.
Student: That's right!!! I'd forgotten that.
Me: It is a shame he had to play for the Lions because he didn't get to play for a good college or a good NFL team.
Student: Yeah, Oklahoma State isn't as a good a team as Oklahoma are they?
Me: No, they aren't. Someone is raising you right.

And this is a true story.
In case you care, we do not have books on Barry Sanders but I have some on the "to order" list.

It's good to know that as gas prices continue to sky rocket, there is uncertainty that surrounds the presidential race looms, and hurricains threaten the gulf coast that something out there still makes sense.....someone IS raising this kid right!
